Your Donation
I can't say it enough. The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra has the best patrons! You love our events and so many of you know our musicians from years of attendance. You bring your friends to our concerts, because everyone likes to share a special secret they have found. Your concern extends to donating your time, talents, and, of course, funds to keep us working. Over 80% of WJO income goes to paying musicians and paying performance expenses. You, like us, are concerned about how our musicians are getting through these months with no live concerts. We have taken efforts to hire free-lance musicians, increase the number of women on our bandstand and find talented musicians from alternative communities. We have paid teacher-composers to produce new music at different student levels; teaching various jazz skills. Then we recorded these charts and are offering them for free to all students to learn from. To help us with these activities please consider making a donation to the WJO here or for more information about donating go here. All donations over $20 will receive a tax receipt.
Sponsorship Opportunities
If you want to be associated with an on-line (or live) concert or educational event please contact us. We will feature your name and logo on our marketing materials and publicity. Sponsorships help us to bring great big band jazz music to Manitoba, pay composers for arrangements and new works, and educate young upcoming jazz musicians. Support for guest artists, special projects, CD production, online educational materials and education events are possible. We welcome creative ideas for how we can work together to bring your company or organization in front of our audience. More information is available here, or email Joan Gillis at [email protected]. We will love to speak with you.
Volunteer with us!
A Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra volunteer's role helps to bring concerts and special events to Manitoba. Volunteers scan tickets, hand out programs and help with setting up and taking down the staging at our concerts. You can be part of a team planning an event, helping our marketing team by re-posting on social media, taking pictures of events, or supporting our work in schools. Or, if you are more laid back, maybe researching government websites for possible grants is just your thing. Or maybe you can't hold yourself back from introducing us to companies who want to inspire Manitobans with jazz music - or add to the educational opportunities for band students. Please introduce yourself here. We are looking forward to getting to know you better!

The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra welcomes and shares its performance and creation of music - a universal language to all people irrespective of culture, race, sexuality, ability, language and gender.
Music is an agent of hope. A dynamic and valuable device that helps us to heal and to bring us together. The First Peoples of Canada understood this and used music to reunite, resolve and reconcile. In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that WJO activities take place on Treaty Territory – land that was maintained and earnestly cared for by Indigenous peoples before European settlement. Manitoba is the original lands of Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and is the homeland of the Métis Nation. We acknowledge that Winnipeg benefits daily from Treaty 3 water that comes from Shoal Lake 40. It is with sincere sentiment that we recognize the mistakes of our recent and distant past. In working towards a Canada that benefits us all, we commit to seeking a greater understanding of Canada’s diverse cultural relationships through continued work with Indigenous communities; we commit to live in ways that honour and respect the treaties that were made on these territories; and we commit to stewarding the land in harmony for all who will come after us.
