WJO FUNDS
WJO Operations Fund
The day to day operations include hiring musicians and guest artists, paying concert costs (venue, sound engineers, graphic design, printing programs, box office costs) and boring things like paying for our website and our phone bills. |
WJO Education and Outreach Fund
A mandate of the WJO is to make direct and meaningful connections with eager young jazz students, giving them valuable tools, skills and inspiration to help them succeed. Education and Outreach programs include inviting school and community big bands to play before WJO concerts, giving these students complimentary tickets, offering heavily discounted subscriptions through schools, holding half day big band workshops involving around 500 students in a usual year, performing at local schools for the community, and organizing three honour jazz bands involving around 60 talented emerging musicians. |
WJO Special Projects Fund
The WJO reaches outside our borders and down through time by producing CDs and promoting big band music. The WJO has four CDs of almost all original music: Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, Steppin' Out, Suite Messiah, and Suite 150. We try to record every year towards our next album. In 2019 we taped Alliance by David Braid and Philippe Coté. In the winter of 2021 we plan to record original music by John Stetch. We have been instrumental in creating a jazz alliance to share music scores, program ideas and encourage other big bands throughout Canada and the world. |
