Jennifer Hanson's reputation for great vocal chops, appearances singing national anthems at NHL games, touring the world with Glass Tiger, a d the country with her own band has attracted the attention of fans of all ages. Her torchy, seductive vocal style is among the finest of current singers, while her stage presence is that of the classic generation of singers like Rosemary Clooney, Julie London and Linda Rondstadt. She's definitely not just another voice in the crowd. Well, maybe she is, but she’s louder and more annoying. Her repertoire runs the gamut from the jazz standard songbook and torchy heartbreakers, to a large selection of blues, rock and R&B. She also knows the anthems of at least 10 countries, just in case. Jennifer is happy to be living back in Winnipeg and can’t wait to hug someone.
Stacey Nattrass is probably most recognized these days as the anthem singer for the Winnipeg Jets but she finds herself equally at home on the musical theatre stage, the classical concert hall or in front of a Big Band. This is Stacey’s third appearance with the WJO. She has performed with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra on numerous occasions and has been seen in productions at Rainbow Stage and the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre. By day, you can find Stacey teaching music in the Seven Oaks School Division.
Rooted in gospel music for much of her career, Jayme Giesbrecht sings with conviction and a whole lot of soul. When she's not co-hosting the CFAM morning show, her focus is entirely on music. From belting out a jazz standard to playing an accordion polka, she finds great honour in the opportunities to share her gifts.
Jocelyn Gould is quickly emerging as one of the vibrant voices of her generation on the guitar. Winner of the 2018 Wilson Center International Jazz Guitar Competition, she has a natural guitar sound and swinging, soulful playing. Jocelyn cites Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Joe Pass and Kenny Burrell as primary influences on the instrument. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jocelyn relocated to the United States in 2016, ultimately settling in New York City. She has performed and toured in the bands of legendary vocalist Freddy Cole, trumpeter Etienne Charles and Trombonist Michael Dease, among others. She can be heard on the records of Jon Gordon, Diego Rivera, Randy Napoleon, Will Bonness, Michael Dease, Jordyn Davis, Cait Jones, Caity Gyorgy and others. In addition to her performance career, Jocelyn began a new roll as Professor of Music and “Head of Guitar Department” at Humber College in Toronto in September 2019. In 2020, she released her successful debut album as a leader, entitled “Elegant Traveler”. Jocelyn is an endorsed Benedetto Artist and plays a Benedetto 16B guitar.
The recordings will be available for two weeks.
Taped at the PARK THEATRE.
N.B. Our concert "Prairie Divas/Divas of Jazz” is not associated with M. Funk Dance Productions & Prairie Diva. We celebrate some of our Prairie's incredibly talented vocalists and musicians - all divas in their own right. To quote their website, “Prairie Diva focuses on the burlesque fusion dance classes, while M. Funk Dance Productions is a roster of professional dancers available for performances at events throughout the city.” Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra applauds the work they are doing to further enhance the dance arts culture in our province.
