A mandate of the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra (WJO) is to make direct and meaningful connections with many eager young jazz students, driving their passion for music by giving them valuable tools, skills and inspiration to help them succeed in their years of jazz band at school and beyond.

WJO Big Band Workshops are typically half-day classes where students work to learn the fundamentals in all areas of big band jazz from WJO musicians & Artistic Director, including a Masterclass led by a featured guest artist. The day culminates in an evening concert in the host school by the WJO.

These workshops are now
offered to over 500 students from over 25 middle and high school jazz bands across Manitoba and proudly continues to grow year over year.

These workshops are made possible with funding from Assiniboine Credit Union and The Winnipeg Foundation. Equipment is provided by Long & McQuade .

The drumset for Sherrie Maricle on October 26th and 27th was provided by Yamaha Canada and St. John's Music.
Transportation for Kiko Freitas' cymbals was provided by Paiste.
