The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra is please to welcome Marsalis Music recording artist Miguel Zenón and New York vocalist Cynthia Scott for its season finale on April 27th.
Zenón's short but illustrious career has seen him perform with a diverse array of artists including David Sanchez, Danilo Perez, Charlie Haden, Bobby Hutcherson, and Branford Marsalis. He has placed on top of the Downbeat Critic's Poll in the "Rising Star Alto Sax" category three consecutive years and received three consecutive nominations by the Jazz Journalist Association for "Best New Jazz Artist". In 2006, the readers of Jazz Times Magazine voted him the "Best New Artist of the Year".
Cynthia Scott recorded and toured with Ray Charles as a member of his band for two years. She has performed, toured, or shared the stage with the Harper Brothers, David Sanborn, Joe Williams, Lou Donaldson, Cyrus Chestnut, Lionel Hampton and The Bessie Smith Revue. She was a featured guest with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz@Lincoln Centre Orchestra in a concert spotlighting the music of Duke Ellington. Notably, Cynthia toured with legendary vocalist Cab Calloway - who introduced her as his 'new discovery' at concerts before performing "Stormy Weather" together.
