Beginning in the fall of 2007, the WJO will offer weekday concerts at centrally located schools. Three to five schools will attend concerts that will last 1hr to 1hr30min and may include some clinic work depending on the needs of the schools involved.

Concerts will focus on specific themes (again, based on the needs of the schools involved). Themes include: "A Brief History of Jazz", "Big Band Instrumentation", "The Art of Improvisation", and "What Makes a Tune?". Students will have the opportunity to "sit-in" with the band as the WJO plays the pieces they are working on as part of their school's program.

We estimate over 300 students will have the opportunity to expand their musical experience, expertise and appreciation of jazz during each school visit. The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra is excited about building the musicians and audiences of tomorrow and, in the process, helping to sustain and enrich the cultural experience for Winnipeg now, and in the future.

For more information, to book the band, or inquire about group discount tickets for students, please contact us at gm@winnipegjazzorchestra.com or by calling (204) 632-5299. As well, check back regularly for information on masterclasses by visiting guest artists.
